The manifesto
Trade the noise for altitude.
Faraya sits between roughly 1,200 and 2,000 metres in the Keserwan mountains, north of Beirut. High enough that the air changes. High enough that the light changes with it.
Arz Faraya is built on a hill facing the village, and the brief has never been more complicated than its name: put homes where the cedars already are, and let the mountain set the pace.
Stress-free is a marketing word until you have stood in it. Up here it means snow that muffles the road in winter, and open meadow to the treeline in summer. It means a day organised by weather rather than by traffic.
What the drawings will eventually say about this site matters less than what the hill already does: it faces the village, it holds the trees, and it takes the weather first.

Four seasons in Faraya
The same hill, four times over.
Most mountain addresses have one good season. This one keeps working through all of them.
Winter
Snow to the door, and the Mzaar and Kfardebian ski domain minutes up the road. The village keeps working through it — this is a lived-in mountain, not a resort that closes.
Snow is the point here, not the inconvenience — a mountain that is lived in through its hardest season rather than shuttered for it.
Spring
Meltwater first, then colour. The cedars come back green, the meadow fills in around them, and the roads open all the way through the mountain again.
The season that changes fastest. Nothing on the hill looks the same from one week to the next.
Summer
Cool nights at altitude while the coast bakes below. Long light, thin dry air, doors that stay open. This is the season that makes the address a year-round one rather than a ski address.
Altitude does up here what air conditioning does on the coast, and asks nothing for it.
Autumn
The quietest season, and the one residents tend to keep for themselves. Clear ridgelines, cold bright mornings, and the whole mountain more or less empty.
The season residents keep for themselves, and the one that makes the strongest case for living here rather than visiting.
